Our trophy cabinet hasn’t had any new additions since the 2014 Asians Champions League win.
And whilst we’ve been to the grand final on three occasions, we’ve come up short all three times.
Not to mention the three FFA Cups we’ve been in, and we are yet to make the semi finals.
However, this year we seem to have one of the best squads assembled since our 2012/13 season. Our attack has been firing all preseason, and our defence with Vedran Janjetovic between the sticks has been rock solid, only conceding a handful of goals.
It is the belief of this writer, that we can win at least one if not more trophies this season.
The FFA Cup is well within reach with Blacktown City standing in our way of progressing the furthest we have ever been in the cup. From there we will face either Sydney, Adelaide or the winner of Gold Coast City and South Melbourne. Most likely we would avoid Sydney FC in a semi, as the FFA would want a Sydney Derby final (yes get your tin foil hats on for this conspiracy).
The A-League premiership could be one of the toughest races since the A-League began with most if not all teams assembling quality squads ahead of the season.
Finally, the finals (if we make it) to play for the Championship will be one of the most important that we can win. Whilst I (like many other football fans) know that the true winner is the premiers, the toilet seat has alluded us in our three attempts and would be the sweetest to win.
Hopefully this season we can complete our collection by winning the FFA Cup and the Championship, doing the double and possible the treble on the way. That way we can turn the trophy cabinet shown above into the one shown below.
