Top 5 Greatest Wanderers players (The GOATs)

5.Jerome Polenz

Polenz was signed in season 1 as the club’s first choice right back. Jerome quickly became a fan favourite with his solid defensive work and pinpoint crosses. His contribution helped the team towards success in both his seasons at the club with a Championship in season 1 and helped the team get through the group stage and round of 16 in the Champions League. His performances in season 1 earned him a spot in the A league team of the season and across his time with the Wanderers, he managed 47 appearances for 2 goals.

4.Nikolai Topor Stanley

NTS was signed in season 1 and made a league-best partnership with captain Beauchamp. In all 3 seasons where the Wanderers made a final, he had an excellent CB partner with him but he made the rock look solid, Spiranovic, Alberto, Hamill, all worked with NTS and he took charge of the defensive unit every time. A premiers plate and an ACL title, along with 104 appearances for 3 goals, a true club legend.

3.Ante Covic

The club’s greatest goalkeeper was signed in season 1 after a long-serving career in the A league. He constantly took charge at the back and made saves only keepers could dream of, the ACL final being the biggest of the bunch. He managed 78 appearances in the red and black keeping 32 clean sheets in the process, absolutely immense and our best goalkeeper by far.

2.Shinji Ono

Ono was signed in season 1 as our marquee no.10 and came to the club with a lot of promise, after a career in Japan and Europe. Ono not only lived up to expectations but exceeded them, constantly providing moments of brilliance and touches, Shinji became a fan favourite across his 2 seasons and got a deserved send off at Parramatta in the ACL round of 16. He managed 51 games across 2 seasons for 10 goals.

Honourable mentions (Youseff Hersi, Mark Bridge, Tomi Juric, Mathew Spiranovic)

1.Brendon Santalab

The current club’s greatest goal scorer and club legend Santa has saved the Wanderers on more than 1 occasion. Goals, passion and a love for the club is what defines this man and without a doubt is the greatest player to grace the red and black. He currently has 94 appearances for 34 goals but will hopefully continue next season on his way to Wanderer’s royalty.
