Wanderers are dealing in threes

Wanderers have confirmed their goal scoring form with another three goals vs Newcastle. It comes on the back of 3 other victories whereby we have notched up three goals.

Before this Western Sydney had a limp draw with Adelaide, was thumped 5-1 by Shanghai SIPG, beaten comprehensively 2-0 by Perth and embarrassed 4-0 at home to Urawa.

The Popa out banners have disappeared, the Shoot sign has been put away and the mood around the club couldn’t be more different.

We have pretensions to win the title again and well we should.

So what has changed so much in such a short time?

  • I believe it is less passing and more shooting up front.
  • Cornthwaite’s influence at the back on the rest of the defensive team.
  • Terry Antonis running the midfield like a technician.
  • Vedran giving us confidence between the sticks.
  • Absence of school boy errors.

When we look at all the points dropped due to goalkeeper errors we could be far further up the ladder.

Aspro and Clisby are improving by the week, Neville is making better decisions in possession and Hamill played his best game of the season off the bench today.

Cornthwaite must keep the Captaincy, his influence and experience are invaluable.

Jumpei still hasn’t peaked in my opinion but is improving every week. He is passing the ball forward and laterally in attack instead of endlessly cutting the ball back.

Sotirio, Baccus and Scott are playing better and better as today’s goal for Jaushua testifies. They will all have roles to play in our finals run, we cant just rely on Santa and young Lachlan can be proud of a great shift in Red and Black today.

Our import players, Pinatares, Borda and Dimas have fallen off the radar at just the same time we started winning.

Martinez is maintaining his high standards and hopefully we can keep him, he has been our best player all year and displays a fantastic work ethic to back up his undoubted skills.

Terry Antonis is proving a master signing, the engine room again has swagger to it and his work in transition is opening up far more creative opportunities than Dimas.

All in all we have a very good team playing some very good football. A month ago we were asking who would stay in an expected mass clean out.

As it stands i believe we will be trying to secure many of these players in the off season and will again be shopping for foreign talent.

Regardless, we are in the Semi Finals and for all the gloom and doom of a very strange season, we are the team no one wants to play at this stage.
