Wanderers make their point in the West

Today’s game was one against many familiar faces with former Wanderer’s gaffer Tony Popovic and a host of players coming up against the Red and Black.

There was no love lost in the match however and Perth took a first-half lead via a well-taken goal by Andy Keogh who saw his first effort saved by Vedran only to skillfully hit home from the tightest of angles with the follow-up.

Wanderers went to half-time needing to lift to get something from the game and came out and played some good Football, particularly in midfield.

Roly and Kamau looked dangerous on the flanks throughout and it was beautifully weighted pass by Tarek Elrich which was skillfully controlled by Bonevacia who duly dribbled forward and scored.

Wanderers then had a glorious chance to take all 3 points but Riera fluffed his lines and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

With only Melbourne City and Wellington Phoenix registering wins Wanderers are sitting in equal 3rd after round 1.

The fans will next travel for the derby at the SCG expectant of improvement after a meek performance in Penrith.

We looked far better today than in the semi-final and it is a credit to the boys to come back into the game after going behind, hopefully, the same ethic continues and we see more improvement and fight throughout the season.
