Wanderers win and the clean out begins

Western Sydney Wanderers came from behind to defeat Melbourne City in an inspired period that resulted in 2 goals in a minute.

Oriol Riera and Mark Bridge hit the back of the net with well taken shots after good build up play in the attacking third.

Manager Josep Gombau will be pleased that we held onto the points as it will relieve the pressure on him and revive our finals chances.

We are just 2 points off 6th and 5 points off 3rd with a game in hand.

If we can string a few matches together we should make the semis and have a crack at the toilet seat, unfortunately, Sydney FC has a mortgage on the Premiership already.

Wanderers bid to make the finals will be aided by a couple of new players of Gombau’s choosing, today Jumpei and Melling were both released by the club freeing up 2 places including a visa spot.

Who Gombau brings in will play the style of football he wants at the club long-term, there will be no excuses about inheriting the players.

Indeed there may well be a few more of Popovic’s players shown the door by the end of the month.

A lot will depend on performances throughout the window.

We are playing Brisbane Roar this weekend who are themselves one point below us, it is simply a must-win game for WSW.

Our old foes are never easy home or away and it is a fixture that always produces goals, with a bit of luck we will have 2 new players to blood and back to back wins to enjoy.

With Perth and Adelaide playing each other, the stage is set for us to leap over one and get back into the top 6 all the while with a game vs last-placed Wellington up our sleeves.
