Break the bank for Ante

When Popovic resigned the obvious answer to the vacant managerial position was fan favourite Ante Milicic, RBF understands that the offer was less than flattering and Ante decided not to uproot his European based family with a World Cup beckoning, you can hardly blame him.

Since then the ground has changed on several fronts, Ange is gone and Arnie is coming, with the greatest respect to the Sydney FC gaffer good times do not appear on the Socceroos horizon and with a bumper offer Ante may be prized back to lead the Wanderers back to Wanderland.

From the boards perspective, the ground has also changed, fans are staying away and the relations between active and the club are bordering on disastrous, they need to give the fans a reason to buy season tickets or we will see the lowest turnout in our short yet proud history.

Ante Milicic was our assistant manager from the outset and is loved by the fans, he gets the best out of the squad quietly and assured and is exactly what WSW need after the Gombau era.

We are currently rudderless, no manager, no word on our major signings, no direction for the football club and as earlier alluded to many fans chucking their scarf in the draw unlikely to pull it out come October.

Ante will attract the players we want, get the best of the ones we have and will be a beacon of hope to a support that is disillusioned with the club hierarchy.

Wanderers will have to pay and pay big, as you would expect with a high-quality appointment, but this is the money that must be spent, the club will regain their investment in the stands and on the points table, this isn’t an idea to throw money down the drain but to rebuild the club to where it was.

Should the appointment be made, Ante could finish his contract with the Socceroos in June and come home and begin the task of rebuilding our club, the schedule is much better than the initial offer whereby Milicic had lots to lose, a squad not of his making to inherit, a season already underway and a World Cup campaign at his feet.

There has been talk that Wanderers are looking overseas for a high-quality gaffer, the obvious choice is the man who is Wanderers to the core. Break the bank, offer him what he wants, bring Ante home.
