Western Sydney Wanderers vs Newcastle Jets
Kick off @7.50pm Friday 22 December 2017 @McDonald Jones Stadium.
The Wanderers were back to winning ways last weekend against a resurgent Mariners, with club hero Santa providing a crucial goal and assist to end the Wanderers win-less streak. Another trip along the M2/F3 this week will see the Red and Black come up against Newcastle, who look world beaters and currently sit in 2nd spot. Last week the Wanderers showed more fight and desire after the demolition derby 2 weeks ago and will look to continue the trend on Friday night.
Last Encounter
Earlier in the season the 2 sides played out a 1-1 draw, with Mark Bridge bagging the opening goal and his only of the campaign so far. The match was a tale of 2 halves, with the Red and Black looking much better in the first 45.
Key player – Brendan Hamill
With regular right back Josh Risdon unavailable due to suspension, Hamill will look to slot into the team and provide a like for like replacement. Hamill has been in good form when his opportunities have come this season, providing an assist for Jumpei in round 1 and scoring against Sydney in round 3. Ensuring that Hamill can keep his defending up to standard is crucial for the Wanderers success on Friday, with Andrew Nabbout running at him.
Key battle – Santa vs NTS
The Wanderers legend returned to his regular self on Saturday night with a goal and assist (and the usual yellow card) to his name, adding to the likelihood that he will start again come Friday night. Up against a former legend in Topor, the battle will be an interesting one, having been teammates and enemies before.
Prediction: Wanderers 2- Newcastle 1
