Free flowing Wanderers score for fun in a puddle

Wanderers claimed all 3 points across the ditch with an entertaining display under atrocious conditions. The weather may have been against free flowing football but this did nothing to stop Markus Babbel’s team from passing the football about with great precision.

We worked it out from the back instead of playing the ball long, we were especially dangerous down the right-hand side with through balls and attacking runs bearing fruit for our first goal and setting up a host of chances throughout the game.

Bruce Kamau looked fantastic for his 75 minutes on the right and will play an integral part in our season, if we are to continue to climb the ladder we will need his continued presence on the right. The first goal was on the back of some slick passing and an incisive run by Kamau finished by an explosive shot by Alex Baumjohan.

Our second goal came on the back of equally slick passing in the attacking third and a blocked shot from distance with the use of the arm, the VAR popped up to try and wreck our day again but to no avail and the clear onfield decision stood, Riera made no mistake from the spot.

From the second goal til the end of the game the match opened up with both Wanderers and the Phoenix hitting the woodwork and drawing saves from both ‘keepers. As Wellington pushed forward to try and get back into the game Wanderers pounced late exploiting the space and O’Doherty made no mistake.

The passing to finish that goal off as with the other 2 was crisp and direct, one touch football in terrible conditions is a massive plus after last weeks disappointment. Markus Babbel will probably buy the A-League a carton of beer for his 1 game ban, with weather like that being banned from sitting on the sidelines was hardly punishment today.

All in all a fantastic response from the boys, but more to the point, a fantastic team effort showing a very attractive brand of football which as this season continues will only get better.
