Red & Black Football

Massive win then a massive derby as Wanderers sense trophy chance

What a gritty win by the boys yesterday against a committed Perth team, that we went 120 minutes to get it done is a testament to the playing group.

That our domestic players and academy products provided the difference bides well for us.

We now have a massive derby against the club I grew up hating, not because I hate Croatians but because they were just that damn good.

The club that grew half the golden generation of the Socceroos is up against the club that put Australian footballs first gold star on a shirt, one rapidly followed by our national team.

This is old Football vs Modern Football at its best.

I have been outspoken many times over the need for promotion-relegation as well as the lifting on bans on teams with Ethic symbolism.

Football is everyone’s game and Croatian Australian’s have devoted and developed more than most, they deserve regular games like this.

With Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory, Perth and the Phoenix out an all A-League game between Brisbane and CCM, the Cup draw could well open up for us.

Adelaide and Melbourne City look the real threats, should we get past Sydney Croatia, anything is possible.
