Nico Expected to be Loaned Out

Greek tabloids have reported that the Argentinian midfielder will be again loaned out by parent club Olympiacos, for next season. The two front runners to secure his services are, English Championship side, Nottingham Forest and our very own Western Sydney Wanderers.

Nico Martinez impressed many with his stint with Western Sydney last season. He obtained praise from coach Tony Popovic and won News Corp Australia’s A-League player of the year award. Nico also won over the fans, becoming a fan favourite and being named Members’ player of the year.

Despite his achievements, there have been strong indications that parent club Olympiacos will again look to loan out the midfielder rather than include him in their squad. Greek news site Gazzetta.gr has reported that Nico is among a number of players close to securing loan contracts for next season. Thema Sports has also reported that Nico will not be selected for Olympiacos this season and will likely be sold or loaned, with a loan most likely to Nottingham Forest or Western Sydney Wanderers.

With 1 spot remaining in our squad for the 2017/18 season, including a visa and marquee allowance, Nico would be a great addition. As it stands, the Wanderers have secured a number of forward players but are light in the midfield, particularly needing more creativity. Nico would fill that role perfectly and make this Wanderers team a force to be reckoned with next season.
