Penrith to be the only derby not at an oval
- Updated: September 28, 2018

Panthers Stadium in Penrith is going to play host to the only Sydney derby not to be played at a stadium built primarily for other sports this season due to the new stadiums being built in both the East and West.
The SCG is a magnificent stadium and I hope it sells out and that there is a spectacle with 3 points attached, but in truth supporters will be miles away from the action.
The same can be said for the old running track which is ANZ, itself a multi-purpose stadium whereby the extra seats do not equate to extra atmosphere.
Penrith is going to be a great spectacle, the sidelines are close by and the hills on either end give the fans standing on them a chance to jump about and mosh without the hindrance of seats and steps.
Active will have the opportunity to put on a spectacle at both ends in this one, it is all set up for an enthralling encounter on and off the field.
I wonder if some of that safe pyro may be tested before it is unveiled officially?
Regardless, the decision to play the game at a rectangular stadium is fantastic news for both clubs supporters and for the FFA Cup itself, a boutique stadium, two bitter rivals and a winner takes all match.
